About Istria Wine Museum
Istria Wine Museum is a modern cultural attraction dedicated to the history, technology and social importance of wine in Istria. It officially opened in Pula in July 2025 as the first museum of its kind in Croatia. The museum occupies approximately 300 square metres inside a former bank building on historic Sergijevaca Street, close to Pula’s Roman Forum.
Its permanent exhibition follows the continuity of vine cultivation and winemaking from prehistoric communities and the Roman period through the Middle Ages, the Austro-Hungarian era and modern Istrian production. Wine is presented not simply as a drink, but as an important part of regional agriculture, trade, customs, everyday life and cultural identity.
Visitors encounter archaeological objects, traditional tools, barrels, presses, bottles, photographs, labels and historical documents alongside multimedia and sensory installations. The museum also operates as an active cultural and educational space, with optional tastings, sommelier-led tours, workshops and storytelling programmes. A ground-floor shop offers Istrian wines, olive oils, gourmet products, museum gifts and curated gift boxes.

The circular exhibition is organised into themes covering contemporary winemaking, Istria as a wine region, the history of local viticulture, seasonal vineyard work, cellar traditions, cultural identity, sensory interpretation and the traditional wine cellar.
Original displays include Roman amphorae, historic glasses and bottles, hand-operated presses, wooden barrels and tools once used in vineyards and cellars. Interactive elements invite visitors to listen to vineyard sounds, recognise aromas and explore the relationship between wine, colour, structure and character.
A central installation presents four types of Istrian soil, while displays introduce native grape varieties including Istrian Malvasia, Teran, Borgonja, Momjan Muscat, Duranija and Hrvatic. Other highlights include a century-old Teran vine planted in 1910 and a wine wall presenting producers and labels from across Istria.
The visit can conclude at the tasting area or museum shop. Standard adult admission includes a welcome glass of Istrian Malvasia or Teran, while additional self-guided tastings and guided sommelier experiences can be booked separately.
