About Cave Romane
Cave Romane is a historic limestone quarry in Vinkuran, southeast of Pula, with origins reaching back to antiquity. Considered the oldest quarry in Istria, it supplied high-quality architectural limestone that was used for some of the region’s most important buildings and monuments.
Its most famous connection is with Pula Arena. Stone was extracted from the Vinkuran quarry during the Roman period and used in the construction of the amphitheatre, creating a direct link between this seemingly hidden quarry and Pula’s best-known ancient monument.
