About Cape Kamenjak
Cape Kamenjak is the southernmost natural landmark of Istria, connected to the village of Premantura about 10 kilometres from Pula. Although many visitors casually call it a nature park or national park, its official protected status is the significant landscape of Lower Kamenjak and the Medulin Archipelago.
The landscape is a mosaic of forests, grasslands, garrigue, maquis and rocky ground. This variety of habitats makes Kamenjak one of the region’s most important natural areas, with more than 600 recorded plant species, around 30 orchid species and valuable habitats protected under the EU Habitats Directive.
Kamenjak also has a remarkable geological story. Fossils and dinosaur footprints connect the area with the late Cretaceous period, while walking paths lead visitors towards Cape Grakalovac, one of the accessible footprint sites. Today, most visitors come for swimming, snorkelling, walking, cycling, kayaking, coastal views and a wilder seaside atmosphere than the city beaches around Pula.

Exploring Cape Kamenjak is best done slowly. Gravel roads and natural paths lead between rocky bays, low cliffs, pine-fringed coves and open viewpoints across the Medulin Archipelago. The coast is varied, so one visit can include swimming from flat rocks, snorkelling in clear water, walking through Mediterranean scrub and stopping at viewpoints above the sea.
Nature is the main attraction here. Spring and autumn are especially rewarding for walking and cycling, while summer is best planned around early mornings, swimming stops and late-afternoon light. At Cape Grakalovac, visitors can follow the dinosaur trail and look for fossilised footprints preserved in the limestone. On the southern side of the peninsula, Safari Bar above Mala Kolombarica Cove is one of Kamenjak’s best-known visitor stops, combining refreshments with a relaxed, nature-hidden setting.
