About Visualia Festival of Light
Visualia Festival of Light is an annual event that turns Pula into an open-air setting for light, audiovisual art and new-media experiences. Installations, projections and other illuminated works appear at different locations around the city, encouraging visitors to explore Pula after dark from a completely different perspective.
The festival was first held in 2013, beginning with 3D mapping, and is described by the Pula Tourist Board as the first festival of light in Croatia. Its programme developed over subsequent editions to include numerous light installations and projects combining art with new technologies.
One of the best-known projects associated with Visualia is Lighting Giants. Introduced in connection with the festival in 2014, the illuminated cranes of the Uljanik shipyard became a distinctive feature of Pula’s night-time waterfront. Another milestone followed in 2015, when a Guinness World Record was achieved at the Pula Arena with participants forming a large illuminated sign known as the “Light Postcard”.
